Geneva Grant

Mayor Karen Simmons had both good news and bad news for the city council.

The State Heritage Commission has allotted a $75,000 grant for downtown sidewalk restoration. But the agreement requires the city to put up 15 percent in matching funds.

Several council members said it might be premature to take any action. They first would like to come up with an "overall" downtown restoration plan.

The council didn't take any action on the grant, but they plan to re-visit the issue in the near future.
