Alabama's unemployment rate inched upward during the month of November.

The Department of Industrial Relations said the state's jobless rate increased to 5.8 percent -- October's rate was 5.6 percent.

The November figures represents approximately 126,100 unemployed Alabamians.

ADIR Director Alice McKinney said Alabama is reflecting the national trend of higher unemployment. The national jobless rate for November was six percent.

McKinney said the majority of job losses statewide centered in the manufacturing, trade and transportation industries. Job growth during 2002 centered mainly in construction, mining and government sectors.
