The family of a Texas murder victim is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Covington County after two inmates broke out of jail.
Oscar Doster and James Harnage escaped from the Covington County Jail on March 31st of this year.
Retired Deputy Dennis Courtney was shot to death on his Oakwood, Texas property on April 6th.
Doster had the victim's four-wheeler when he was arrested in California a few days later.
Harnage still had Courtney’s pick-up truck when police caught him in Las Vegas.
The civil complaint claims Covington County officials should have done more to prevent their escape because Doster is waiting to stand trial for allegedly killing another man after breaking out of jail three years ago.
The investigation of the latest killing continues, but Texas authorities could send the case to a grand jury next month.
