French fries are one of America’s favorite junk foods, but now, there may be a new reason to fear the fries.
A California lawmaker wants to put warning labels on the favorite finger food.
Saying fries can cause cancer.
Foods like french fries and potato chips contain a chemical called acrylamide.
Scientists have found the chemical caused cancer in lab rats and mice.
Food companies argue acrylamide has never been proven to cause cancer in humans, especially at the trace levels contained in food.
The FDA is also opposed to the labels, but have agreed to do their own study.
