Stocks Trade Lower for Third Day

War fears overshadowed encouraging economic reports Thursday on Wall Street, sending stock prices lower for a third consecutive day.

By midafternoon, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 70.49, or 0.8 percent, at 8,376.86, having lost 180 points in the previous two sessions.
Earlier in the session, blue-chip stocks gained as much as 57 points.

The broader market was also lower. The Nasdaq composite index fell 6.10, or 0.5 percent, to 1,355.41.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 6.05, or 0.7 percent, to 885.07.
