Auburn Trustee Meeting

Governor-elect Bob Riley attended unannounced closed meetings last weekend of a group that will pick nominees to serve as Auburn University Board of Trustees.

Riley's spokesman David Azbell said Riley attended the meeting as a guest. He said Riley disagrees with the secret nature of the process, but did not object to the meetings on Friday and Saturday.

As governor, Riley will automatically serve as chairman of the committee or can designated someone to serve in his place. Riley takes office Jan. 20.

A five-member panel is working to fill seats now held by state Rep. Jack Venable of Tallassee, Senator Lowell Barron of Fyffe, and Charles Glover, a retired businessman from Vinemont.

Their terms expired Jan. 1, although trustees may remain on the board for another year.
