Metro Atlanta is facing the possibility of a gasoline shortage until two pipelines coming out of hurricane ravaged Louisiana can be repaired and electricity restored to the pipeline pumps.
Those pipelines also supply a terminal in Bainbridge, Georgia where most Dothan gasoline distributors get their fuel.
As a result, supplies could be limited and prices are already shooting up.
One Dothan distributor says gasoline could be trucked in from other locations, but that would also add to the company's cost which would likely be passed on to the consumer.
Alabama Governor Bob Riley is asking state employees to avoid non-essential travel and also urging motorists across the state to conserve the gasoline they have in their tanks.
