National Guard members from the Wiregrass are being asked to assist in those areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Thirty guard members from the Geneva Armory headed to Andalusia.
The soldiers will be deployed to some of the worst hit areas of Alabama and her neighboring states hit by Katrina.
Alabama Gov. Bob Riley says the mission will involve security, preventing looting and other problems associated with evacuations.
The soldiers don't know how long they will be deployed on storm duty, but Gov. Riley says they should be prepared to be gone for at least two weeks.
