Katrina Roars Thru Mobile

One of the most impressive views in Mobile, Alabama’s downtown district is the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

Not even the World War II icon could withstand the winds and rains of Hurricane Katrina.

The ship was battered Monday by severe turbulence and is now listing on its port side after taking on water.

Park officials estimate the damage at $2 million, with the primary damage done to the museum that houses the vintage warplanes.

The facility's gift shop now has two feet of water on its floors and officials say it will take two weeks to clean up the damage.
