Washouts on several heavily traveled roads in the Panhandle kept Florida Department of Transportation crews on the move, setting up makeshift detours.
The heavy surf claimed a piece of Highway 30A in South Walton County.
A large chunk of asphalt simply gave way on Dune Allen Beach.
Regional utility crews put up detour signs warning motorists to avoid the stretch of road.
Part of the problem is beach erosion.
A washout of Highway 98 outside of Destin caused the most problems in Northwest, Florida.
Crews are rerouting traffic around the problem area.
