Hurricane Emily is moving over Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.
It's expected to barrel over the Gulf of Mexico later in the day. Meanwhile, a hurricane watch remains in effect for Cabo Rojo, Mexico, northward to Baffin Bay, Texas. The Yucatan peninsula is under a hurricane warning.
According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, at 8 a-m the center of the storm was about 50 miles east-northeast of Merida, Mexico. It's moving toward the west-northwest near 17 miles per hour.
Forecasters say maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 100 miles per hour, making Emily a Category Two hurricane. But the storm is expected to strengthen when it moves back over water.
