A condemned killer who had a new lease on life is back on Alabama’s death row.
Willie McNair was sentenced to die for the stabbing death and robbery of Ella Riley near Abbeville in 1990.
But, US District Judge Myron Thompson of Montgomery ordered a new sentencing hearing, saying the original defense lawyer did not adequately represent McNair.
The state attorney general's office appealed and the 11th circuit court of appeals in Atlanta has reversed the district court ruling.
The victim's family is pleased with the decision.
McNair will continue to appeal his conviction and death sentence.
