Elba Council Meeting

The Elba City Council heard from several residents concerned for the safety of young children in their neighborhood.

The council approved a resolution reducing the speed limit on Smith Avenue from the bypass to where the crooked bridge was removed two years ago.

Signs will be posted cutting speeds down to 35 and then to 25 miles per hour at the lower end of the street.

Resident Brenda Polk says she has seen near tragedies on the roadway.

The 25 mile per hour speed limit is now in place and Elba Police say they'll increase patrols of the area to ensure that it's enforced.
