Cataract Study

A new study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, finds cataract surgery can reduce by up to 50 percent the chances an older person will get into a traffic accident.

The study was conducted by University of Alabama at Birmingham scientists who specifically investigated the effects of cataract surgery on driving.

Cataracts are common among older adults. Half of white adults age 65 to 74 and 60 percent of black adults have them.
