An Okaloosa County sheriff s deputy and former Shalimar police chief has been suspended without pay pending an investigation into DUI charges.
Charles Self was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Reports state that another deputy saw a car run a red light on Okaloosa Island Saturday morning. The car later turned onto the center line and drove for about 100 feet before ending on the left land. The report says the car then swerved across the center line several times before coming to a stop.
The deputy stopped Self's car and reportedly called supervisors after seeing who was behind the wheel. Self underwent a sobriety test after refusing twice to a breath analysis test and was then arrested.
Self is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 13.
