A 40-year-old man is in jail in Dothan after a wild day in which he led police on two chases and at one point attempted to escape from police custody in an ambulance.
Police say 40-year-old Steven Alan Collier of Valley is charged with first-degree theft of property and third-degree escape.
Police say Collier was first arrested after leading police on a chase across Dothan at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour.
The chase began when an officer responding to an attempted burglary call attempted to pull Collier's vehicle over.
Collier’s vehicle later wrecked and he attempted to escape on foot before being arrested.
Later Monday, Collier was taken to a Dothan hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
At the hospital, Dothan Police Captain Steve Parrish said Collier managed to slip out of his handcuffs and
attempted to get away in an ambulance.
Parrish said Collier made it across the street in the ambulance before being captured for the second time in one day.
