Organizers, sponsors and coaches of youth sports in the Wiregrass met with city officials Thursday to discuss a proposal that will establish a fee for using Dothan recreational facilities.
Not only is a 10 percent fee increase projected, but a new stipulation is in the works. It requires 75 percent of sporting participants to live within the Dothan city limit.
Athletic programs in Dothan city schools will feel the effect of the fee.
For any activity held at Rip Hewes Stadium, schools must pay a 10 percent gate fee to rent the stadium and 10 percent of what they make selling concessions.
City officials said the fee is designed to reduce the $100,000 deficit in the leisure services budget.
