The Slocomb Sausage Company was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning. Just after 5 a.m. neighbors reported flames shooting more than 20-feet into the night sky.
Slocomb volunteer firefighters were assisted by units from Hartford, Malvern, and Faydette in putting the fire out. The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
The landmark business had served the community for nearly 100 years, and it had customers from as far away as Mississippi. Owner Steve Shipes and his family have operated the business for the last 10 years.
Shipes said he has insurance, but he is not sure if it will cover the cost of rebuilding the business.
