The Florida Department of Transportation is closing the main bridge into Pensacola as conditions here worsen with the approach of Hurricane Dennis.
The Interstate-Ten Escambia Bay Bridge is closed to traffic due to winds exceeding 45 miles-per-hour. I-Ten is the main east-to-west artery that runs through the city.
Transportation officials say the winds are creating unsafe conditions for crews inspecting the bridge and the traveling public. An overland detour will take motorists through nearby Milton until the bridge is inspected again after Dennis makes landfall.
Two bridges leading to barrier islands Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key were closed earlier in preparation for the storm.
