Hurricane Dennis has prompted hundreds of soldiers and airmen from Florida to seek refuge at Fort Benning until the storm passes.
By yesterday afternoon, 471 military personnel from Elgin Air Force Base, Camp Rudder, and Correy Station had checked in at Fort Benning. They were given a place to rest and passes for bowling and a movie theater.
The commander of the Evacuation Control Center at the Georgia military base says the soldiers and airmen will stay at the base until they get the all-clear that it is safe to return home.
They were among thousands of people that fled Florida and Alabama as Dennis prepared to make landfall.
