State and local police will be out in force Tuesday to stop as many drunken drivers as they can from riding Alabama roads.
The Department of Public Safety estimates four people will die in roadway accidents during the New Year's Holiday. The 30-hour period runs from 6 p.m. Tuesday through midnight, Wednesday.
Last year 16 people died during the 102-hour New Year's travel period -- 10 on rural roads and six in urban areas.
State trooper Corporal Will Rogers in Birmingham said the New Year's holiday period is the more deadly of the two December holidays.
Troopers, along with local police and sheriff's agencies will emphasize DUI enforcement during patrols and checkpoints in Alabama's 67 counties.
