A Covington County man drowned over the weekend while saving a young girl from a fast moving current.
It happened in Flat Creek, just a few miles outside of Samson.
Authorities say Travis Woosley jumped in after seeing the little girl go below the surface. While the 47-year-old raised the girl above the water, he reportedly stepped into a sinkhole which sucked him under to his death.
Family and friends say Travis Woosley died a hero.
Mr. Woosley and his family lost their home last October in an overnight fire in Geneva County’s Hacoda community.
