Florida bank was robbed at gunpoint Friday morning. One of the suspects is now dead, after shooting himself when police tried to arrest him.
Two men wearing stocking masks and armed with handguns held-up the community bank in Malone around 10 a.m. Friday. Shortly before noon, a Florida state trooper spotted the suspects in the town of Greenwood and tried to stop their green Ford Explorer, but the vehicle sped away.
A spokesman for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said one of the suspects in the SUV opened fire on the trooper, striking the patrol car several times, as the vehicles sped down State Road 167. The other suspect was arrested without incident.
Authorities have identified the two men involved in the robbery as 22-year-old Matthew Clark of Greenwood, Florida and 24-year-old Floyd Lee Burke of Blountstown, Florida. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said most, if not all, of the money taken in the robbery has been recovered, along with two handguns.
