People who knew Wal-Mart heir John Walton are paying tribute after learning of his death in the crash of an experimental plane in Wyoming.
His former wife, Arkansas Judge Mary Ann Gunn, called him, "a prince" and recalled that he, "loved to build things."
Wal-Mart senior vice president Jay Allen calls Walton, "a good man."
Walton's father, Sam Walton, started the discount chain. The son was a member of the company's board and supported efforts to create taxpayer-funded ways for students to attend private schools.
Walton founded the Children's Scholarship Fund in 1998 with $67 million from the Walton Family Foundation to provide low-income families with money to send their children to private schools. More than 67,000 children benefited.
Forbes Magazine lists John Walton as the world's eleventh richest person.
