Officials at Fort Rucker have confirmed two helicopters were damaged during routine training this morning at Hooper Stagefield just outside the Ozark gate.
Two were on board each helicopter when they collided.
The two helicopters involved were AH64D Apache Longbows.
It’s not known right how or why they collided, because that is still under investigation. But when they collided, debris was thrown everywhere--and some even flew into the window of a helicopter that was still on the ground.
It’s estimated that this is a "Class A" accident, meaning the damage is in excess of one million dollars.
All four pilot trainees escaped serious injury and were treated for minor injuries.
