MONTGOMERY, AL - Michael Malone, the director of the agency that coordinates Alabama's higher education system, says he will step down when his contract expires next year.
Malone is executive director of the Alabama Commission on Higher
Education. He told the commission on Friday that he plans to leave in June of next year after four years in the post. A search for a new director begins soon.
Malone, who plans to spend more time with his family, commutes to the commission's office in Montgomery from Birmingham. Before his appointment, Malone was the president of Troy University's Dothan campus.
