PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) -- A federal grand jury has indicted four Florida Panhandle residents on charges of filing fraudulent claims to a fund created to compensate victims of the 2010 BP oil spill.
The Department of Justice announced the indictments Tuesday.
Those indicted are 45-year-old Daniel Marlow, 36-year-old Jakima T. McCorvey, 31-year-old April McKinney and 49-year-old Dana Dias. Each faces fines of up to $250,000 and up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
According to the indictment, the fraudulent claim submitted to the Gulf Coast Claims Facility requested compensation for lost income from jobs either lost before the oil spill or jobs never worked. One business owner is alleged to have submitted a claim for more money than the business lost.
