The parent company of European aircraft maker Airbus has selected Mobile over three other southern sites for a 600 million dollar plant to build re-fueling tankers.
The company says it plans to offer a tanker version of its Airbus A-330 passenger jet for the multibillion-dollar Air Force contract to produce a new generation of aerial refueling tankers. Alabama Governor Bob Riley feels this is a winning situation for all involved. If the contract and factory are agreed upon, it would create an estimated 1,000 jobs at the Mobile site.
