One Wiregrass city’s environmental program is nationally regarded as one of the best in the country. Nearly half the people in Enterprise participate in the city’s recycling program.
The city provides once a week household pick-up of recycled materials. Those items are placed in orange plastic bags. With just 4 months left of this fiscal year, Enterprise officials say the city has generated nearly $50,000 in revenue by recycling such items as cardboard, newspapers and aluminum. Enterprise has a nearly 40 percent participation rate, which is double the national average.
