Enterprise officials were told earlier this month that the Highway 167 four-laning project to Troy had finally been placed on Alabama's 5-year transportation plan.
Downtown Troy business owners say that is welcome news. The north-south route is a commonly used road to Florida’s Gulf Coast beaches. Expanding Highway 167 is expected to bring tens of thousands of travelers through Troy.
However, both Pike and Coffee County officials say even though the Highway 167 project is now on the state DOT 5-year plan, there's no guarantee that work will begin within that time period.
