DNA Evidence Leads to Murder Arrest

CRESTVIEW, FL - Investigators say DNA evidence links a Crestview man to an Arizona woman's murder that happened 18 years ago. Tyrone Kessler of Crestview is awaiting extradition after he was arrested on a first-degree murder charge in the killing of Katherine Young. He's being held in the Okaloosa County Jail under a one million dollar bond.

Arizona investigators say the victim had been sexually assaulted and died from strangulation and blunt-force trauma. Her body was found in 1987 in her apartment. Investigators say a sample of Kessler's DNA matches DNA evidence found at the crime scene.

The case was reopened last year. The Crestview man had lived in the same complex as the victim when she was killed. Police interviewed him 18 years ago but were unable then to tie him to her death.
