Highway 84 Expansion

Recently, work began on making Highway 84 four lanes from Andalusia to the Georgia state line.

The Department of Transportation continues to hold workshops for landowners who will be affected by the project.

A roomful of impacted property owners carefully examined maps. They directed questions to Alabama Department of Transportation employees. The residents were from the tiny Shiloh Community, located along Highway 84 between New Brockton and Elba.

In February 2000, Gov. Don Siegelman announced the ambitious project at Elba High School.

At this time, Highway 84 four-laning has gotten underway in several sections of Coffee and Covington Counties. Alabama DOT officials said the four-laning project will cost $120 million.
