Investigators have not released the confession of a sex offender charged with murdering a nine-year-old girl, but a teenager who spoke with one of the suspect's housemates says she was told the victim was raped and buried alive.
The disclosure came yesterday as prosecutors released more than 1,400 pages of documents and photographs from the investigation. It was the second batch of papers issued to comply with pretrial requirements.
John Couey is being held without bail in the slaying of third-grader Jessica Lunsford, who vanished from her bed Feb. 24. The 46-year-old Homosassa man was arrested March 17th in Augusta, Georgia. Lunsford's body was dug up March 19th near the mobile home where Couey was staying with his half-sister.
In a March 29 interview, the 15-year-old stepdaughter of Couey's roommate Madie Secord says the woman told her that Couey kept Jessica alive for four days in the mobile home. Secord is Couey's niece.
