There has been a sharp increase in the amount of car burglaries in Dothan since the first of the year. And it appears as the city has become a haven for car burglars who smash windows and take valuables.
Kim Williams has lived in this suburban neighborhood for years...and never had anyone try to steal anything until her cars were broken into again, and again, and again. But, she's not alone.
Dothan police say car burglaries are at an all-time high, especially in middle class neighborhoods.
From January 1st to April, there were 88 car burglaries and from the end of April to May there were 136. These crooks don't look for any type of car, not even a certain year.
All they look for is opportunity, an unlocked door with cash, cellphones or purses sitting out in the open.
Dothan Police officials recommend you take extra precautions include locking your car door, having lights on around your house, notice odd behavior of those who don't live in your neighborhood, and by not leaving valuable belongings inside the car.
