Robert Coram has written a biography on the life of Colonel John Boyd, one of the greatest fighter pilots in American history.
Boyd defeated every pilot who challenged him in less than 40 seconds, but Coram said Boyd really made his mark on military history after he left the cockpit.
He said Boyd was a military maverick who challenged the Pentagon bureaucracy, but his ideas changed the way modern fighter jets are designed and his tactics are now considered revolutionary.
Robert Coram has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize during his career at the Atlanta Constitution.
