Attorney General Charlie Crist says the Medicaid program paid 93-thousand dollars to provide Viagra to 218 Florida sex offenders over the last four years.
A loophole lets sex offenders get the drug through the state and federal health care program for the poor and elderly. The state checked the records after learning that a New York audit showed 198 sex offenders there received the drug since 2000.
The state is seeking waivers from the U-S Department of Health and Human Services to treat Medicaid more like private managed care.
The secretary of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration says the state is evaluating what actions it can take to change the Viagra policy.
