Henry County Man Charged in High-Dollar Theft Scheme

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A 41-year-old Henry County man is facing dozens of theft charges for allegedly stealing more than $900,000 from an Ashford trucking company.

Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes said 41-year-old Billy Thomas Ludlam of Abbeville was arrested Friday and was charged with 41 counts of first-degree theft.

Investigators accused Ludlam, a former shop manager for AMX Trucking, of billing the company for thousands of dollars worth of tires and tire repair orders through a bogus company he created.

The thefts were reported by the owner of AMX who discovered large amounts of money missing from his business. The thefts, according to authorities, occurred from 2004 to 2008.

The sheriff said investigators are looking at the company's books and additional charges are pending against Ludlam.

Ludlam posted $720,000 bail and was released from the Houston County Jail.
