Since Sheriff Andy Hughes took over a little more than a year ago the sheriff's office has put an emphasis on traffic enforcement.
Over the past year the sheriff’s office has set up checkpoints throughout the county to spot anything from not carrying insurance to possession of drugs.
Backup spotter cars make sure that vehicles don't avoid the checks.
28 more DUI arrests were made in 2007 than 2006.
Houston County authorities also made almost 500 drug-related arrests last year, more than 250 of those were for marijuana and nearly 200 involved cocaine.
