A Dothan city employee has been arrested on a charge of extortion.
Forty-eight-year-old Mary Leon Turner worked as a magistrate in the judicial department, but she's been placed on administrative leave with pay.
Part of her duties included processing traffic tickets.
She’s accused of mishandling a citation that was issued two years ago.
Chief Powell says the man with the ticket failed to keep his end of the bargain and he was eventually arrested for failing to pay his fine.
That’s when the case came to light.
Turner’s bond has been set at $10,000.
The chief says some other employees associated with the case will be disciplined, but no criminal charges will be filed against them.
