State Worker Holidays

Gov. Siegelman is giving state employees four days off during the holiday season, one more than usual.

State law provides holidays for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. But, Siegelman announced Friday that state workers will get off the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 29.

Employees will also get the two days after Christmas, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 26 and 27, and New Year's Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Governors traditionally give state workers an extra day at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. But Siegelman said he's giving two days at Christmas because the holiday falls in the middle of the week and state workers should have a long weekend to recognize their "dedicated and valuable" service.
