An Enterprise man will receive a lesser sentence for the 2003 death of his girlfriend.
Forty-seven-year-old Marcellous Evans was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Evans confessed last week to accidentally killing Susie Phillips in exchange for the lesser sentence if he led authorities to where the body was buried.
Phillips was last seen on Feb. 21, 2003 in Opp.
Evans says that he and Phillips got into a quarrel and he hit her with a closed fist and then returned to find her not breathing.
After trying to revive her using CPR, Evans says he dumped her body about a mile from his former residence between Daleville and Level Plains.
He returned a week later and buried her remains in a three to four foot hole.
