Officials are trying to calm a community still fearful and angry after the recent abduction and slaying of a nine-year-old girl.

Authorities say a registered sex offender has confessed to kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing Jessica Marie Lunsford in February.

Many citizens blame the crime on a flawed judicial system -- John Couey failed to register in Citrus County after he changed residences, making it difficult to find him.

State Senator Nancy Argenziano says the Legislature is considering a bill to toughen penalties for sexual predators and force them to wear electronic tracking bracelets if they're ever released from prison.

Citrus County School Board officials say they'll vote tomorrow to require its contractors and their subcontractors to screen employees against the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's registry of sexual offenders.
