Alabama Board of Education members voted Thursday to replace a contract employing Richardson until 2004.
The new contract keeps the superintendent on the job until November 2006.
Richardson's base salary is $165,780 per year, but like other state employees he received a three percent pay increase on Oct. 1. He was first hired in October 1995.
