A political activist who wants to keep Alabama's 1901 constitution is suing over Amendment One, which Alabama voters approved by 81 percent.
The amendment requires that any new constitution, whether written by the Legislature or a constitutional convention, must be approved in a statewide vote.
Sandra Lane Smith, president of the Alabama Association for Judeo-Christian Values, contends in a lawsuit in Montgomery County Circuit Court that the amendment was not properly described on the ballot.
Kathy Bowden, executive director of Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform, said Amendment One received lots of publicity and voters knew its impact.
