Hammond Trial

Jury selection is scheduled to start Thursday morning for 50-year-old Jerry Hammond. He faces capital murder charges for the 1988 stabbing death and robbery of his 78-year-old uncle.

Prosecutors claim Hammond stole James McNeal's wallet to get money for drugs.

Hammond's first conviction was overturned after a court reporter lost part of his original trial transcript.

His second conviction was reversed after an appeals court ruled the jury was not properly instructed and that prosecutors should not have told jurors about Hammond's original death sentence.

Opening arguments are scheduled to begin Monday.
