Teaching Students with Limited English

The Geneva County School District received word that federal funds' have been allocated to hire a full-time aide for children of migrant workers and other students who speak limited English.

Since 1985, the Geneva County School system's migrant liaison has worked with mostly Hispanic children who have moved to the area.

School officials say the results have been tremendous.

In coming months, a full time aide will be hired to work one-on-one with the kids in each of the district's schools.

Geneva County Federal Programs Coordinator Regina Nolen said, "We have students coming in, provide for them and make sure they are on a level playing field with our other students. We are amazed how quickly they do learn English."

Next month, the Geneva County School Board is expected to hire a full-time aide to work with the children who have limited English skills.
