Another local school district has been granted unitary status by a federal judge.
The Houston County Board of Education now has full control over decisions regarding the school system.
About eight years ago, the Houston County School System attempted to have an order lifted stemming from a desegregation suit against the schools.
At that time they were denied, but Thursday, a federal judge ruled the school district has done enough to earn unitary status. That means school board members can make decisions including ones about hiring and recruitment without federal involvement.
