Downtown Attempted Mugging

A mugger in downtown Dothan was surprised when the woman he tried to attack fought back.

The incident happened just after 5 o'clock Tuesday in front of Rouseaus' Law Firm.

The lady who was targeted is a secretary at the business and says she was trying to get into her vehicle when a man in a ski mask held a knife to her side and demanded her purse. That's when she took action to protect herself and save her life.

Self defense instructors hope more residents will react like the lady who was attacked if they find themselves in similar situations.

Dexter Hammon, a self-defense instructor said, "Everyone underestimates women including women, but they can defend themselves with training and confidence. Confidence plays a big part in self defense."

If you have any information about Tuesday night's mugging, police would like to talk with you. You can contact them through Crime Stoppers at 793-7000.
