Late yesterday afternoon in Geneva, a status hearing was held in the murder case of a man accused of killing a toddler.
In June 2002 Angel Marie Whitley was killed in Samson.
33-year-old Steven Preachers is charged with murder.
At the time of the incident, he was the boyfriend of the child's mother.
Gail Whitley says the last two-and-a-half years have been unbearable.
Authorities say Angel died from blunt force trauma to the head from an object.
Preachers allegedly slammed the two year old child’s head against a bedroom dresser because she wouldn't stop crying.
Whitley says, “I blame him now... I didn't know what happened. That’s when authorities told me that Stevie had harmed Angel.”
The judge will hold a second status hearing on Preachers case within the next 30-days.
An actual trial date has not been set.
