Houston County Lawsuit

A Houston County woman who claims she was raped by a deputy has filed a lawsuit against Houston County and Sheriff Lamar Glover.

However, attorneys for the woman are withholding further comment about the case that began in September of last year.

Deputy Eric Sewell was assigned to investigate a burglary at the woman's home. He recovered some of her property, but the woman claims he also raped her while on duty and in uniform.

Sewell was suspended after the woman made her allegations and he committed suicide that same night.

In a prepared statement, Glover said he's certain no evidence can be produced to indicate his department neglected to supervise its employees. But the lawsuit also claims the incident wasn't the first involving Sewell.

In their original complaint, attorneys for the woman were seeking more than $2.5 million. The lawsuit is asking a jury to award whatever punitive and compensatory damages the panel deems to be fair and reasonable.
